What changes the installed cost?
- Charger model, tethered or untethered cable and current rating.
- Distance from consumer unit to parking space and the cable route.
- Consumer-unit capacity, protective devices, earthing and any remedial work.
- Wall mounting, trenching, drilling, access equipment and making good.
- Load management, solar/battery integration and tariff control.
- Network signal, app/account setup and warranty terms.
Get comparable written quotes
Ask each installer to specify the exact charger, electrical protections, cable route, civil work, commissioning, notification/certification, warranty, exclusions and VAT. Do not compare a hardware-only price with a complete installed quote.
Safety and eligibility
Use a competent installer working to current UK electrical requirements and the charger’s instructions. Grant or landlord/leasehold eligibility can change; check the current official scheme and obtain required permission before work starts.
After installation
Keep the certificate, circuit details, installer contact, warranty and app-recovery instructions. Test scheduled charging and load management with the vehicle present.
