Coordinator choices
| Type | Main check |
|---|---|
| Home Assistant Connect ZBT-2 | One adapter can run Zigbee or Thread, not both at once; use dedicated adapters if both networks are required |
| Earlier ZBT-1/SkyConnect hardware | Confirm current support, firmware and migration path; do not present it as the default new purchase without a current official listing |
| Sonoff Zigbee USB coordinators | Exact chipset, model suffix, antenna, firmware and ZHA/Zigbee2MQTT support |
| ConBee-family coordinators | Exact generation, deCONZ/third-party support and current software maintenance |
Installation quality matters
Use a short USB extension to reduce radio interference, place the coordinator centrally, keep a firmware/configuration backup and add enough mains-powered routers for the property. Do not migrate every device until the new coordinator and rollback route are proven.
Thread and Matter
A Thread radio is not a Matter controller by itself. Matter-over-Thread needs a compatible controller and border router. Keep Zigbee and Thread roles explicit in the design.
