Airthings publishes seven sensor categories for View Plus: radon, particulate matter at PM2.5 size, carbon dioxide, airborne chemicals described as VOCs, humidity, temperature and pressure. The 2.9-inch e-paper screen can show selected readings, while the app provides history and helps expose patterns that a one-off reading can miss. Airthings states that it can run on AA batteries or USB-C; USB-C power also enables its hub function for compatible Airthings Wave devices.

This breadth is the reason to buy it. A bedroom CO₂ rise, a cooking-related PM2.5 spike and a slow radon average are different problems with different responses. View Plus puts them in one history, but it should not encourage instant conclusions: its manufacturer specifies initial calibration time for CO₂ and VOC, and radon decisions should be based on longer-term evidence.

2. Aranet4 HOME: best focused CO₂ monitor

Aranet4 HOME is the cleaner choice when the main goal is deciding when to ventilate an occupied room. It uses a non-dispersive infrared sensor to measure CO₂ directly, rather than reporting an estimated eCO₂ value derived from another sensor. The screen also shows temperature and humidity, while atmospheric pressure is available through the app and is used for pressure compensation.

The e-ink display and battery operation suit bedrooms, studies and shared rooms because the reading is visible without opening an app. Its narrower remit is also its limitation: it will not tell you whether cooking has raised PM2.5, whether a product has increased VOCs or whether a property has a radon issue. Follow Aranet’s calibration instructions and avoid placing it directly beside a person’s face, an open window or an air vent.

3. IKEA VINDSTYRKA: simple particle display option

VINDSTYRKA is useful when you want a glanceable PM2.5 reading near a kitchen, living area or purifier. IKEA says its display shows PM2.5, temperature, humidity and tVOC. The tVOC indicator shows whether the level is rising, stable or falling; it is not a laboratory identification of a particular compound. The unit needs USB-C power and can work as a stand-alone display.

Connecting it to IKEA’s DIRIGERA hub makes readings available in IKEA Home smart and can support an IKEA-centred setup. Check the current hub and app requirements before treating that as part of the purchase. Because VINDSTYRKA lacks a direct CO₂ sensor, it is not the right substitute for Aranet4 in a crowded bedroom or office.
