Last checked: 19 July 2026. Smart features come after life-safety suitability. Choose the correct smoke, heat or carbon-monoxide alarm for each location, follow the manufacturer’s siting and interlink instructions, test at the stated interval and replace every unit by its marked end-of-life date.
Safety: An app alert is not a substitute for a working audible alarm, compliant siting, local interlink or a household escape plan. For legal duties and property-specific advice, use current government, fire-and-rescue-service and competent-installer guidance.
Current connected replacement path
FireAngel Pro Connected is the current system-level recommendation. It combines separate smoke and carbon-monoxide products through Wi-Safe2 interlink, with an optional FP1000W2-R Smart Gateway for remote alerts and app testing.
It is not a direct one-device replacement for Nest Protect. Smoke and CO protection use separate FireAngel units. Choose between the FP2620W2-R battery smoke alarm and FP1640W2-R mains smoke alarm according to the property and installation plan, then specify compatible CO protection where required. FireAngel currently marks the documented FP1820W2-R CO alarm out of stock, with no visible buy control on its official page, so do not present it as immediately buyable until availability returns.

1. Choose the smoke-alarm power route
The FP2620W2-R is the battery smoke-alarm route. The FP1640W2-R is the mains smoke-alarm route. The correct choice depends on the property, existing wiring, local rules, required alarm type and competent installation plan—not a generic preference for “wireless” or “mains”.
Both sit within FireAngel’s Pro Connected system. Confirm the current official conformity/certification documents, replacement date, battery and fault warnings, audibility and approved room placement for the exact unit before purchase.
Buy the battery route if: it is permitted and suitable for the location and avoiding new mains wiring is material.
Buy the mains route if: the property or project requires it and competent electrical installation is available.
Skip both pending advice if: the room needs a heat alarm, accessibility equipment or a different compliant design.

2. Add carbon-monoxide protection separately where required
The FP1820W2-R is a separate carbon-monoxide alarm. A smoke alarm does not detect CO, and a CO alarm does not detect smoke. Follow the official siting instructions and current rules for fuel-burning appliances and rented or regulated properties.
Current availability: FireAngel’s official page marks the FP1820W2-R out of stock and shows no visible buy control. Use that page only as a product-information and siting reference, not as a commercial handoff. Recheck live availability and exact Wi-Safe2 compatibility before naming a replacement.

3. Add the FP1000W2-R gateway only for remote functions
The exact FP1000W2-R Smart Gateway connects the Wi-Safe2 alarm network to app and email alerts and app-based testing. FireAngel states support for up to 50 units. The gateway needs internet and Ethernet; it is not compatible with DrayTek routers according to the manufacturer.
Interlinked alarms continue their local Wi-Safe2 behaviour if the internet is lost, but remote alerts do not. Confirm what happens during a power cut and which local alarm functions remain without the gateway. This is not a video-storage product, and no cloud-retention or subscription entitlement should be assumed without checking the current app/service terms.
Buy it if: remote status and alerts are valuable and the network/router path is compatible.
Skip it if: you only need compliant local interlinked alarms or the required Ethernet/internet path cannot be made reliable. Skipping the gateway does not remove the need for correct local alarms.

Installation and ownership checklist
- Map each required smoke, heat and CO alarm by room and escape route before buying a kit.
- Check the exact current UK certification/conformity documentation and local requirements for the property type and UK nation.
- Confirm whether interlink is local Wi-Safe2, wired, app-only or a combination; life-safety alerts should not depend solely on broadband.
- Record battery/replacement dates, test schedule, fault and end-of-life warnings, and who will receive remote alerts.
- Test audibility for sleeping occupants and consider visual, vibrating or linked accessibility equipment where needed.
- Create and practise an escape plan. A connected alarm does not suppress a fire or call emergency services unless a separate verified service explicitly provides that function.
Who should choose another system?
Use an installer- or risk-assessment-led design for HMOs, flats with communal systems, holiday lets, supported living, properties subject to landlord duties or households needing specialist accessibility. Do not mix alarm families merely because they share a brand; verify exact interlink compatibility.
