Last checked: 19 July 2026. A mesh system cannot create speed that is absent at the broadband line, Ethernet backhaul or client device. For most UK homes, node placement and backhaul matter more than the largest wireless number on the box.

  • Best high-end Wi-Fi 7 option: TP-Link Deco BE65, after exact hardware-version confirmation. UK V2 is BE9300 while V1 is BE11000; their radio specifications differ and must not be blended in one comparison.

β€œDeco BE65” is not precise enough for a purchase. TP-Link’s UK material distinguishes V2 as BE9300 and V1 as BE11000, with materially different radio specifications. The retailer title, product label and received hardware version should agree.

The BE65 class is most useful when a home has multi-gigabit broadband or LAN traffic, suitable Wi-Fi 6E/7 clients, and either Ethernet backhaul or node positions that preserve a strong wireless path. A 6GHz band can add capacity and clean spectrum at short range, but it loses more signal through dense walls and floors than lower bands.

Buy it if: you can verify the exact BE65 version, have clients and backhaul that use its capability, and need high aggregate capacity.

Skip it if: most devices are 2.4GHz IoT products, the home cannot support sensible node placement, or the ISP service is far below the existing network’s capacity.

The exact Deco BE25 is a dual-band BE3600 mesh system. It supports MLO and 160MHz channels and supplies two 2.5GbE ports per unit, which makes it attractive for multi-gig wired backhaul or a fast NAS. It does not have a 6GHz radio.

That omission is not automatically a defect. A dual-band system can be the better-value choice where clients are mainly 2.4GHz and 5GHz, while Ethernet carries the inter-node traffic. With wireless backhaul, the same radio capacity must serve backhaul and clients, so placement and real room-to-room conditions matter.

HomeShield Basic is free and Pro costs extra. Check which parental-control, security and reporting features require the paid tier rather than assuming every advertised function is included indefinitely.

Buy it if: you want Wi-Fi 7 and 2.5GbE without paying for 6GHz hardware you may not use.

Setup and compatibility warnings

  • Put a wireless node where it still receives a strong upstream signal, not at the centre of the dead zone.
  • Use access-point mode only when another router intentionally owns DHCP, firewall and routing; document which device performs each role.
  • For Ethernet backhaul, verify every link in the chain: port, cable category, switch and negotiated speed.
  • Keep a supported 2.4GHz onboarding path for plugs, bulbs and sensors. A combined SSID may work, but vendor setup flows vary.
  • Do not interpret theoretical aggregate wireless rates as one-device speed. Clients, distance, interference, regulation and backhaul all reduce usable throughput.
  • Retain recovery credentials and a documented way to administer the network if a cloud account or phone is unavailable.

Subscription, data and installation boundary

Wait if the present system already covers the property, key clients are Wi-Fi 5/6, Ethernet cannot be improved and there is no multi-gig traffic.
